Godaften!

Our mornings are starting to get earlier and earlier. I had to leave the kollegium at 6:45 this morning to get to the Academy in time for the bus. We left around 8am and after 75 minutes of driving, we reached our first destination: Sorø Stolefabrik. The times where I could hear the tour guide over the machines, I learned a lot about veneer. I wasn't too heart-broken at missing some stuff, I'm just hoping that we get to some steel workshops, so I can start to get a clue to how to work with it.

This is another installment of "My Chucks Around the World!"

And these are from the factory:

After that was another 90 minute trip to our lunch destination: a rest stop! We walked a short way to the McDonald's nearby. It is amazing how much more expensive food is here. I didn't get anything–I had brought some fruit with me, but a single hamburger was 10 Kroner (about $2), and that was the cheapest thing on the menu. To get a combo with fries and a drink, it was 58 Kroner (about $11.50), and that price is pretty much standard wherever you go, except for Chinese places. Although, I did stop at a Netto after the trip today to pick up some peaches and a "Diet Cola," which was only $1.50.

After lunch, we were pretty close to the town of Middelfart, yes Middelfart, to visit Midform. They greeted us with a Powerpoint presentation not unlike the vendor lunches from PGAV days. Then they guided us around their shop and showed us the multi-million dollar heat presses and laser cutters that they use to create their furniture. I pretty much just stared in awe at the stuff they could do. They wouldn't allow any pictures, but I think I took enough at the last place to keep up the pace.

Tomorrow is another bus trip around the countryside to visit more manufacturers and some showrooms. I wish I had stayed more awake during the bus ride because it was beautiful. Well, actually, it was so-so. But it was so-so like Missouri. Like the middle of Missouri without the porn shops and churches.
